Sweetness & Light Farm

Handcrafted Soap, HandCream, LipBalms, & more

We are small home-based business.  All our soaps are made in small batches, poured in wooden boxes and then hand cut and wrapped.

I started making soap when the honeybees arrived on our small farm in rural Massachusetts.  My husband and I were always fascinated by the honeybee.  Its highly organized and complex hive life awed and captivated us.   After a season of honey harvesting, I was left with a great deal of wax.   Hence, I started learning about the wonderful properties of beeswax. Beeswax acts as an emulsifier in soaps and creams leaving your skin smooth and soft. Beeswax,  when made into a candle will burn twice as long as a paraffin candle and will not smoke or drip. The honey acts as an emollient which moisturizes the skin.  So, I got to work.

All Natural Soap

The results were wonderful.  I was making an all natural soap that was mild and had lots of sudsy bubbles.  During the soap making process, glycerin is naturally produced, which softens and makes your skin feel silky.  Because I add beeswax to most of my soaps, the soap tends to be harder than most commercial soaps, making it last longer in the shower. The whole family was enjoying the soap, and I was hooked.  I couldn’t stop making these handcrafted, all natural soaps.

I realized how luxurious these simple handmade soaps were after I learned store- bought soaps were nothing more than “detergent bars” - all the natural glycerin filtered off.  We seem to have lost this ancient craft of soap making in the 20th century, replacing it with a manufactured petroleum product.

If you’re hankering to see some farm life from some want-a-be farmers, come see what were doing on our farm, Sweetness & Light Farm. We have sheep, goats, and our guard llama, Dorothy Mae.  They’re a fun group, and they give us hours of entertainment.  Did I forget the chickens?
